What Is Microneedling with Mesotherapy — and Is It Right for Your Skin?

Healthy, radiant skin is built on a strong foundation of collagen, elastin and hydration. As we age, the natural production of these essential building blocks gradually slows, leading to fine lines, uneven texture and a loss of firmness.

One treatment that has become increasingly popular for improving overall skin quality is microneedling with mesotherapy. By combining collagen stimulation with targeted skin-nourishing ingredients, this treatment offers a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation — with minimal downtime and no surgery.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling — also known as collagen induction therapy — uses very fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. These tiny pathways trigger the body's natural healing response, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin.

Over time, this process can help improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, mild pigmentation concerns, and overall skin firmness and elasticity. As new collagen develops over the following weeks, the skin becomes smoother, firmer and more refreshed.

What is mesotherapy serum?

Mesotherapy serums are specially formulated, sterile solutions containing active ingredients selected to support skin health. Depending on your individual skin concerns, these may include hyaluronic acid for deep hydration, amino acids to support skin repair, vitamins and antioxidants, peptides that help maintain skin firmness, and brightening ingredients to promote a more even complexion.

Unlike standard cosmetic serums, professional mesotherapy products are specifically designed for clinical use and should only be applied by appropriately trained practitioners.

Why combine the two?

The power of combining microneedling with mesotherapy lies in timing and depth. As microneedling creates the micro-channels, a carefully selected mesotherapy serum is applied simultaneously — allowing active ingredients to reach the deeper layers of the skin far more effectively than topical application alone.

This combination aims to stimulate collagen production, improve skin hydration, support the skin's natural repair processes, enhance radiance, and improve skin texture and tone. While results vary between individuals, many patients notice improved skin quality after a course of treatments, with continued improvement as collagen production develops over several months.

Choosing the right protocol for your skin

At MeiLustre Clinic, mesotherapy is delivered using CLINICCARE solutions — medical-grade serums selected for their clinical efficacy. Rather than a standard formula, the protocol is chosen for you personally based on your specific skin concerns at consultation:

The Glow Cocktail targets pigmentation and restores a more even, radiant complexion. The Refresh Cocktail focuses on deep hydration, helping to diminish fine surface lines. The Pure Cocktail is calibrated for sensitive, reactive or inflamed skin. The Tight Cocktail is formulated to improve firmness and elasticity.

The right combination is always chosen based on your skin type, concerns and what you're hoping to achieve.

What concerns can it address?

Microneedling with mesotherapy may be suitable for early signs of ageing, fine lines and wrinkles, dull or tired-looking skin, mild acne scarring, sun-damaged skin, uneven texture, dehydrated skin and enlarged pores.

A full consultation is always carried out first to determine whether the treatment is appropriate for your skin type and goals.

What happens during treatment?

Your appointment begins with a thorough consultation to assess your skin and discuss your concerns. The treatment itself typically involves:

  1. Cleansing the skin

  2. Applying a topical anaesthetic for comfort (around 15 minutes)

  3. Performing controlled microneedling using a medical-grade device

  4. Applying the selected mesotherapy serum throughout the procedure

  5. Finishing with soothing post-treatment skincare and full aftercare advice

Most appointments take around 45 to 60 minutes. A numbing cream is applied beforehand, so most people experience only a mild pressure or light prickling sensation during treatment.

What should I expect afterwards?

Following treatment, it is normal to experience mild redness similar to sunburn, slight tightness, temporary sensitivity and mild swelling in some individuals. These effects usually settle within 24 to 48 hours, with a healthy glow typically appearing within 5 to 7 days.

During recovery, it is recommended to keep the skin clean and well hydrated, avoid excessive heat, swimming and strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, wear daily broad-spectrum SPF, and avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinoids and exfoliating acids until advised. Full aftercare guidance is provided at your appointment.

How many sessions are needed?

Although many patients notice a healthier glow after a single session, collagen remodelling takes time. For optimal results, a course of three to six treatments spaced approximately four to six weeks apart is commonly recommended. At MeiLustre Clinic, a course of three sessions is offered for correction and improvement, and a course of six for longer-lasting transformation. Your treatment plan is always agreed at consultation, tailored to your individual skin condition and goals.

Is microneedling with mesotherapy safe?

When performed by a qualified medical professional using sterile equipment and clinically appropriate products, microneedling with mesotherapy has an established safety profile for suitable candidates.

However, treatment may not be appropriate for individuals who are pregnant, have active skin infections, certain medical conditions, or are taking medications that affect healing. A detailed medical assessment is therefore an essential part of the consultation process.

Why choose a medically led clinic?

Choosing a medically led clinic means your treatment is based on clinical assessment — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

At MeiLustre Clinic, every patient receives an individual consultation delivered personally by Zheng Yu Hu, Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Independent Prescriber, with over 40 years of NHS clinical experience. The same clinician carries out your consultation, your treatment and your follow-up — allowing your progress to be carefully monitored and your plan adjusted over time.

MeiLustre Clinic is CQC-registered, which means it operates within a regulated framework. Patient safety, natural-looking results and honest clinical advice remain at the centre of every treatment plan. If microneedling isn't the right option for you, that will always be discussed honestly at your consultation.
